BCS means Bangladesh Civil service. It is a competitive exam in whole Bangladesh. It has 3 phases. Like the preliminary examination, the written examination and the viva voce (interview). Marks distribution
For preliminary exam:
- Bengali – 35 Marks
- English – 35 Marks
- Bangladesh Affairs – 30 Marks
- International Affairs – 20 Marks
- General Knowledge – 15 Marks
- Mathematics – 15 Marks
- Computer Literacy – 15 Marks
- Mental Skills/ Conceptual – 15 Marks
- Geography and other – 10 Marks
- Ethics, Values & Good Governance – 10 Marks.

BCS Preliminary exam Syllabus details
It takes time around 2 hours. The marks will be 200. Probably the question type would be objective.
For written exam:
In General Cadre:
- Bengali First and Second Part 100+100 = 200 Marks
- English First and Second Paper 100+100 = 200 Marks
- Bangladesh Affairs = 200 Marks
- International Affairs = 100 Marks
- General Science and Technology = 100 Marks
- Analytical Mathematics and Mental Ability Test = 100 Marks
For technical cadre:
- General Bengali = 100 Marks
- General English first & second part = 200 Marks
- Bangladesh Affairs = 200 Marks
- International Affairs = 100 Marks
- Mathematical Reasoning and Mental Ability = 100 Marks
- Two Papers for post Related subject = 200 Marks
For both cadre:
There would be 9 compulsory subject and 2 post related subjects.
Viva:
It would be the direct interview. Who pass the previous 2 step of exams they are qualified for the viva voce. It contains 200 marks. It is the last, final and most critical phase of the BCS exam.
BCS Syllabus PDF
There is no specific syllabus for BCS. They has to know everything.
General cadre is Administration, Ansar, Accounts, Cooperative, Customs and Excise, Economic, Family Planning, Food, Foreign, Information, Police, Dak, Railway Transport and Commercial, Taxes, Trade. They don’t need to good at specific field.
Professional cadres are Roads and Highways, Public Works, Public Health Engineering, Forest, Health, Railway Engineering, animal resources, Fisheries, Statistics, Technical Education, Agriculture, Food, General Education. They need to good at specific field.
Selection:
BPSC (Bangladesh Public Service Commission) selects most eligible candidates on the basis of written 900 marks and viva 200 marks. 45% candidates are selected on the basis of merit and rest of 55% are selected from the quotas. After selecting them BPSC send them to the Ministry of Public Administration. They tests their medical records, police verification and NSI Circular verification. After that all the struggle candidates can finally called BCS Cadre.
